There's nothing quite like a bowl of hearty chili to warm up a chilly evening, especially when it comes with a twist! Combining the rich, smoky flavors of barbecue with the natural sweetness of honey, this Honey BBQ Sauce Chili recipe is sure to delight your taste buds and bring comfort on any day. Perfect for game days (think Super Bowl... but sadly without the Green and Gold), family gatherings, or a cozy night in, this chili is not only delicious but also easy to make. Let’s dive into how you can create this mouth-watering dish right in your kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (You can substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 bell pepper, any color, diced

  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes

  • 1 cup WBCo. Honey BBQ sauce  (This recipe works equally well with our Apple Hickory BBQ Sauce too)

  • 1/4 cup honey (Preferably WBCo. for the best flavor)

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional for serving: shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, or cilantro

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Meat and Veggies:

    • In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.

    • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot with the beef, cooking until they are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

    • Toss in the diced bell pepper and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, just until they start to soften.

  2. Combine the Ingredients:

    • To the pot, add the kidney beans, black beans, and diced tomatoes with their juice. Stir well to combine.

    • Pour in the barbecue sauce and honey, then sprinkle in the chili powder, smoked paprika, and cumin. Stir everything together until well mixed.

  3. Simmer:

    • Reduce the heat to low and let your chili simmer gently for at least 30 minutes (the longer the better) to an hour, stirring occasionally. The longer it cooks, the more the flavors will meld together. If the chili becomes too thick, you can add a bit of water or beef broth to reach your desired consistency.

  4. Season and Serve:

    • Taste your chili and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

    • Serve hot, garnished with your choice of shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, chopped green onions, or fresh cilantro.

This Honey BBQ Sauce Chili is a unique take on a classic comfort food, adding a perfect balance of sweetness from the honey and a deep, smoky flavor from the barbecue sauce. It’s a satisfying meal that’s sure to be a hit whether you’re serving it up for a casual dinner or a special occasion. Enjoy crafting this sweet and savory delight and watch it become a new favorite!
